School Day

Every morning our side gate is open for access to Breakfast Club. Parents can drop off their child by 8.50am. EYFS children should be dropped off up the lane, at the side of the school and wait for staff by the black gate. Key Stage 1 children should be dropped off at the front gate where a member of staff will be there to meet them.

The children enter school for register, wake and shake to be ready for the day ahead.

It is really important that children arrive on time everyday. We start teaching at 9.00am prompt and don’t want children to miss this!

Sessions

Morning Session: 8.50am to 11.45am

Lunch: 11.45am to 12.45pm

Afternoon Session: 12.45pm to 3.10pm

Each day the children will be at school for 6 hours and 20 minutes.

Each week the children will be at school for 31 hours and 40 minutes.

Collective Worship

We start every day by sharing an act of collective worship. We have strong links with the church and many people visit to deliver our worship, such as our vicar, Tony. The children are able to take part by contributing to services in church at Harvest, Christmas, Easter and our leavers concert at the end of the year. Parents and families are welcome to join us every Friday for our Celebration Assembly in the Medway Centre.

Phonics

We start every day with a 20 minute phonic session. The children are in different groups depending upon their phonic ability. Children move around the school to their phonics groups after the register is taken. After the session children return to their classes for the rest of the day.

English

We teach an English session every day. Children learn how to read, write and spell through sharing a range of texts together, often using our Interactive Whiteboards, but also big books, or sharing printed text which may be scanned onto the board using our visualisers. They learn the key elements of communication through speaking and listening activities, as well as through drama and role-play. We want children to become independent writers and encourage writing by sending home a teddy in a rucksack to take home in turn each week.

Mathematics

This is taught daily through active, practical lessons. The children are taught all aspects of maths but particularly number. They cover measures, shape and space and problem solving. We have an excellent range of resources to support the learning.

Lunchtime

We go to our hall at The Medway Centre, after washing our hands, to have our lunch at 11.45am. We sit together and say our lunchtime prayer. Our midday supervisors help the children with cutting up their food, pouring drinks and keeping everyone happy. Our school meals are delivered from the Junior School nearby. After the children have finished their food, they go out to play on either the playground or school field depending upon the weather or time of year. We have lots of lovely toys to play with such as balls, hoops, bats, bouncy hoppers as well as fixed play equipment like our train, boat and trim trail.

Afternoons

Racy Reading

Our afternoons begin with Racy Reading. We hear children read in this session either individually, or as part of a group carrying out guided reading. We also provide a range of engaging reading activities to encourage the love of books.

In the afternoons we cover all the other areas of the curriculum such as PE, RE, music, art and topic work including science, geography and history. We try to make our learning as cross curricular as possible by making links between areas of learning. There may be time for a quick breath of fresh air and a run around between activities.

End of the day

We end the day by sharing stories, singing songs or sharing news from our children. The children say their home time prayer before getting ready to be dismissed from their allocated doors where parents are waiting to collect them.

Children must be collected by someone who they know. If it is anyone different we need to be informed by contacting the office.
