Subject Intent

PSHE focuses entirely on developing the whole child and well-taught PSHE ensures that our children develop into well-rounded, resilient, emotionally attentive adults of the future. Increasing happiness, curiosity and perseverance in children can help break limiting beliefs that stifle aspiration and hamper the ability to achieve.  At Bakewell, we are proud of our nurturing, learning environment that has a well-planned PSHE curriculum at its heart.

Implementation

To be happy and self-confident, children need to develop lifelong strategies, which will positively affect their happiness levels and give them skills they can apply to all aspects of their lives. These are not skills that we are born with- they are skills that need to be taught, modelled and developed as children grow and that is where our well-planned PSHE lessons come into play.

Through our PSHE and Circle Time sessions, children learn the vital skills of collaboration as they listen, turn-take, build friendships and relationships and help each other resolve problems. Intrinsically when teaching our PSHE lessons we nurture care, and kindness, as well as fostering respect for others.
