Attendance
We want every child to feel safe, settled and ready to learn. Being in school every day helps children build routines, make friends and grow in confidence. Our school community is stronger when all children are here, on time, every day. Coming to school helps your child learn, build confidence and life skills.
It’s normal to feel nervous sometimes. In most cases, coming to school helps children feel better. Being with friends and trusted adults can make worries feel smaller. At Bakewell CE Infant School, we will look out for your child, listen to them and help them feel safe.
Support with attendance
We know that some children feel worried about coming to school at times. This is normal, especially at the start of a new term or when joining a new class.
Sometimes there are other issues that make coming to school difficult, such as transport, uniform or difficulties at home. If attendance is becoming a struggle, please talk to us – we are here to help. We can work together to understand what is happening and agree a plan together.
If needed, we can help you find support from other services. Contact our:
1. Attendance Champion (Mrs. Cath Lee) on 01629812322
2. Family Support Worker (Mrs. Alex Southall) on 07586194660
to talk it through.

.
If your child is poorly or unwell
There will be times when your child is unable to attend school because of unavoidable causes. We ask you to inform school on the first day of absence if your child is unable to attend school. We will also ask you the reasons and expected duration of the absence.
If your child is ill, we request that you keep them at home until they are feeling better, especially in the case of infectious diseases in line with NHS guidelines.
Please ensure we have emergency contact details for each parent so that you can be notified if your child becomes ill during the school day. Our staff team also contact families daily when a child is not in school to offer further support and advice.

Term Time Leave of Absence
The Education (Pupil Registration) (England) Regulations 2006 as amended by Education (Pupil Registration) (England) Regulations 2013 state:
Head Teachers shall not grant any leave of absence during term time unless:
- An application has been made in advance, by the parent with whom the child normally resides AND
- They consider there to be exceptional circumstances relating to the application.
It is not possible to produce a list of what is considered an exceptional circumstance. All requests are treated on an individual basis.
Examples of circumstances that may not be considered exceptional are:
- Availability of cheap holidays and cheap travel arrangements
- Days overlapping with the beginning or end of term
To make an application for leave of absence during term time, the form below must be completed and submitted to the Head Teacher at least two weeks in advance of the requested dates giving detailed reasons for the request.
Applications cannot be granted retrospectively.
