Governors

We are very fortunate to have a committed and dedicated team of governors. Their role is crucial in the development of Bakewell CE Infant school.

The law states that the purpose of governing bodies in our type of school, is to “conduct the school with a view to promoting high standards of educational achievement at the school” (Section 21(2) Education Act 2002).

In practice this means we have six core functions:

  1. Strategic leadership that sets and champions vision, ethos and strategy

  2. Accountability that drives up educational standards and financial performance

  3. People with the right skills, experience, qualities and capacity

  4. Structures that reinforce clearly defined roles and responsibilities

  5. Compliance with statutory and contractual requirements

  6. Evaluation to monitor and improve the quality and impact of governance

Please find below details of our school's Governing body, including the names, categories, responsibilities for each Governor.

Our governors

Mrs Clair Dathan - Chair of Governors

I attended Bakewell Infants School, as did my son. I have been a governor since 1993. I am dedicated to providing a good all round education to all children. I believe that Bakewell Infant School does this in a caring, professional way and in a fantastic environment. I am chair of the performance management group and chair of the resource management committee. I attend school events whenever possible and enjoy seeing the fantastic achievements of the pupils and staff. I work as a Principal Trading Standards Officer and in my spare time I enjoy singing and walking my spaniel, Ruby.

Canon Tony Kaunhoven - Foundation Governor

I have been Vicar of Bakewell with four other churches since January 2007 and joined the school governors on my arrival. I value and am committed to the important link between the church and school, looking always to strengthen and develop it. I enjoy the opportunities to share in the life of the school, leading collective worship, introducing children to the Christian life and faith and being a resource for the school. I enjoy my family time, walking and being a season ticket holder of Chesterfield FC 'Come on the Spirites!'

Mrs Helen Crapper - Parent Governor

Mr Sam Kerman - Parent Governor

I have been living in Bakewell for a while now, but have lived in the Peak District all my life. I have one very energetic son at the school.  He really enjoys school and learning new things.

The decision to become a part of the governing body was fairly straightforward for me. I wanted to be part of shaping the school vision and objectives, to ensure all the children get to be their best and learn all they can while with the school.

My background work-wise has been very varied, from retail assistant to retail manager, accounting, and HR. I am no stranger to dealing with fairly complex information and thinking on my feet.

I made the extra decision to become the governor responsible for SEND, which kind of means special needs and/or learning difficulties. This has huge significance for me as I have dyslexia and dyspraxia plus other learning difficulties, so I have a very good understanding of learning difficulties and the impact they can have. I plan to use my experience to help the school give SEND children the best possible opportunity to learn and thrive.

I look forward to working with the school and my fellow governors so that we can give the children what they need to succeed.
