Governing Board Statement
Welcome to the section of the website where you can find out more about our school’s governors, and the work that they do.
The main role of the governors is one of monitoring and evaluation, in order to support the Head teacher and staff at Bakewell Infants School. We help them to set and reach targets and to strive for excellence so that every child can shine across all aspects of school life.
The role of the governing board is to:
Share in the school’s vision and aims for the future
Uphold and develop the school's Christian ethos
Ensure that the strategic direction of the school is implemented
Supporting the Head teacher in providing effective learning experiences for the children
Work in partnership with parents, school staff and local community
Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent
Holding the Head teacher to account for the educational performance of the pupils
Ensure that the national curriculum is followed
Provide support and guidance for the Head teacher on all matters relating to the school, premises, finance, grounds, security and health and safety
Ensure the National Curriculum is implemented
Ensure that arrangements are made for pupils with special educational needs
Help ensure the school complies with the requirements of OFSTED
At Bakewell Infants School the governors are committed to working with the school staff to identify any areas that may require further development in a shared aim to keep the school moving forwards. We currently have 12 governors on our board, our governors are from the local area and have strong connections to the school. The main governing body meets every term and each member of the board also sits on a sub-committee that meet termly to discuss their specific areas of interest. These sub-committees are focused on Teaching and Learning and Resource Management. All our governors also visit the school regularly on an informal basis supporting us in many activities throughout the school year.
