Geography
Subject Intent
At Bakewell, our intent is to provide pupils with a deep understanding of place and the changing environment in which we live in. Teaching Geography ensures every pupil has a better understanding of our human and physical world. The knowledge, skills and values developed in Geography can be used to make a positive contribution to our local community as well as the world through social and environmental action.
Implementation
Pupils will learn about the local area of Bakewell and how the past has shaped the landscape and society. For example, finding out why Bakewell has a street named Castle Street.
Pupils will reflect on their own beliefs and experiences as they encounter different societies and cultures in their learning. We aim to captivate pupils by giving them opportunities to discover their place in a unique and diverse world.
We use Geography to broaden pupils’ horizons by developing a sense of their place in the world. We aim to inspire pupils’ curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will allow them to become responsible citizens. We aim to provide real and enhanced experiences, to ensure every pupil develops a love for the subject and reaches their full potential.
